San Jose Municipal Golf Course

This is better than most munis to be sure. The greens are well maintained and were all replaced about 6 years ago. The course is fairly flat and wide open though they have added a few trees strategically placed a couple years ago. Length is the primary defense for this course. They have a really nice practice facility. Double deck range, two short game practice areas for pitches and chipping and another large green for putting. The club is large and very active. About 10 events per year and most of them have 90-130 participants in any given event. While there are houses around the perimeter of the course, none come into play unless you REALLY whack one sideways. You wouldn't know you were in one of the largest cities in the U.S. The course is green and is an enjoyable walk. The homes around the perimeter are suburban, not urban.

Very basic layout, but good if your game if off. Staff are great.

I always enjoy playing this course. It is flat and not overly long, and wide open. A relaxed enjoyable round. I was playing with one of my grown sons who is a relative beginner, so it was a nice course for him. The greens were very nice, nicer than they used to be before renovation last year.

San Jose Muni is a great course for any skill level of golfer. Course is always in great shale and they are constantly improving the course and conditions. Bob McGrath and his staff make you feel welcome and their knowledge of the game can help any player improve.

I was so pleasantly suprised to find that every cart had a complete rain shield over the entire cart. The day was very cloudy and at times the relief from the intermittent rain was a true blessing. When it really started pouring I had a nice dry place to take off my windbreaker and put on my goretex. What a great place to play a rainy day round. The greens are all new and today was the first time that I found them to be very consistent albeit that they were wicked slick and fast. Not bad for a Muni.

Great deal for seniors during week and week day special 11-1 also excellent pricing. Week end rates too high, especially if you take cart which will set you back $64. Course is wide and forgiving, nice for relaxing round

Everything a classic muni course should be - walkable, affordable, unpretentious, not terribly difficult. I like coming here for the early morning back-9 before going to work. Greens are in great shape, many of them have recently been rebuilt. Fairways were still a bit soggy, even though it hasn't rained for a couple of weeks.

So, a few caveats to the numerical ratings. The course is fairly flat, wide open, very convenient for me and enjoyable. Here's the deal on pace of play, show up first thing (pre-9am). That's the only way to get through in 4 hours. The staff is great, they are nice and friendly but not overly so and not in a fake way. The marshals, well, they wave, so that's nice but don't expect them to speed up pace of play. After 9 there can be fivesomes which is annoying and the $50 price tag on the weekend is no bargain as of summer 09. I can play Seascape on the weekend for $59. Still, I'll not stop playing there (see my second and fifth sentences).

A Municipal Golf Course. it is ok, and for me, convenient.

Like the course but the pace of play is a killer on weekends. 5 hour round, lots of waiting around. The marshals do nothing but offer excuses for slow play so plan on a slow day if you play on a weekend. Friends say its also true on weekdays.

This is a good golf course for beginners, but being in the Silicon Valley, they charge much more than a beginner's course should. A lot of hackers here and not much of a layout. Staff is fantastic though.

Not a lot of OB, makes this a good course for beginners as you can spray the ball without penalty.
